Basic Safety
Here are four basic bicycling tips
Maintain control
To ride safely and confidently, always make sure your bicycle fits you properly and is in good condition.
- Choose a bicycle that matches your height and riding style. A well-fitted bike is more comfortable, efficient, and easier to control.
- Adjust the saddle and handlebars to suit your riding position.
- Before every ride, perform a quick safety check to ensure the brakes, tires, gears, and other components are functioning properly.
- Regular maintenance helps prevent mechanical issues and keeps your ride smooth and reliable.
If you need assistance selecting the right bike or adjusting your setup, our team is always happy to help.
Protect Yourself
Properly fitted helmets help protect against serious head injuries and improve rider safety. We strongly recommend that all cyclists wear a helmet whenever they ride.
Wear your helmet per manufacturer directions.
Be Visible and Alert
Always stay alert and anticipate the actions of other road users.
- Be prepared to slow down or stop for vehicles entering the road from side streets, driveways, or parking areas.
- Watch for vehicles, motorcycles, and scooters that may turn across your path without warning.
- Use clear hand signals before turning or changing direction to communicate your intentions to others.
Intersection and Turning Skills
Intersections or junctions are the areas with the highest risk of collision for cyclists.
- Check Carefully: Look ahead, behind, and over your shoulder (or use mirrors) before turning left or right to ensure no vehicles are overtaking.
- Signal Early: Use hand signals 5–10 seconds before turning to alert other drivers.
- Stop Safely: When crossing or waiting at red lights, stay about 1 meter from the road edge and yield to motorized vehicles.
